Abstract
Borderless and faceless communication creates a lot of security issues for users. Countries worldwide world work either independently or cooperate with other countries enhance cyber security. High reliance on computers and the Internet has exposed university students to serious information security threats. This is because university students have different attitudes towards information security practices which may be due to a lack of understanding the risks. This is a conceptual paper that discusses factors affecting personal information security behaviour among undergraduates in Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). Several factors were identified to have an effect on UUM students’ information security behaviour such as self-efficacy; perception of security and privacy; perceived vulnerability; perceived severity; and log in credentials management. A conceptual framework has been developed based on extant literature and premised on an underpinning theory.
